The much anticipated seventh release by The Decemberists entitled What a Terrible
World What a Beautiful World comes out on January 20. In the run up to the event, the
band has released the fourth track from the Album Make You Better.
The Indie Folk Rock Band came into renown with their Grammy nominated The King is Dead. The Portland, Oregon band has a well earned reputation for eclectic live performances and lyrics focusing on historical events and folklore.
The Tucker Martine produced Make You Better is a full bodied folk rocker. The tune harkens to REM’s “Losing My Religion” with the melancholy chorus “We’re not so starry eyed anymore”. A direct simplicity delivers an earnestly mature song. The urge to press replay is hard to fight. I dare radio stations to try and overplay this song enough to make me not like it. Make You Better does exactly what any early release should do, make you excited for the entire album. Mission accomplished.
