Having seen JP Cooper support The Script on their Freedom Child Tour, I knew I was in for something special last night at Camden Roundhouse in London. With his debut album Raised Under Grey Skies hitting the UK Top 10 a few weeks previously the audience were also expecting the gig to be as magical and hypnotising as JPs vocals.

As JP Cooper stepped onto the stage the crowd cheered and watched in awe as his set list began. When the intro to She’s on My Mind began the crowd cheered and immediately began to dance along with JP. The crowd and myself were mesmerised all night by his songs. These included his hits September Song, Wait and Perfect Strangers which he introduced by saying that many people, expected him to be a dance artist but he was clearly an acoustic pop type of guy. He’s a humble, charismatic and genuine man.

These qualities can seem rare nowadays within the modern music scene. These qualities were proven in-between songs; as he thanked everyone for being there and was so glad that many of us had turned up to hear him sing as he had played to many an empty room.

As the night drew to a close JP Cooper thanked everyone he could and named all the crew by name and what they did (including the lighting and sound technicians – something a band hardly ever does).

Fingers crossed it will not take JP Cooper too long to get back into writing for his next album as he has already released 5 singles from Raised Under Grey Skies prior to the album being released at the beginning of October. As I expect great things from him.
