Following on from their downbeat summer debut ‘Home Heart’, Manchester synth-pop duo Koalas reveal their hand with a double a-side of exhilarating left-field pop, ‘Lover / Two Loves’.
With Manchester’s lurching music scene currently knee deep in DIY guitar bands, Koalas are part of a new vanguard of artists to come out of the Low Four studio and label, working with producer Brendan Williams (Dutch Uncles, GoGo Penguin, Makemake).
Songwriter and co-producer Samuel Jones discusses the decision to release two tracks at once…
“Lover and Two Loves are two-sides of the same coin, the first an imagined conversation with a fallen love and the latter dealing with a collision of lust and love. They’re very much the centrepieces of our live-set and it’s cathartic to have these songs – some of the first written – out there.”
Koalas cite influences ranging from Caribou and Boards of Canada to The Pointer Sisters and Ambitious Lovers.
