Today Ten Fé return with new single ‘Not Tonight’. Expansive and cinematic, the narrative of a suffocating relationship is knowingly delivered through the band’s uplifting pop songcraft. Willingly at odds with anything else on the current British musical horizon, ‘Not Tonight’ bathes in a form of dark modern Americana, with the production of long-time collaborator Luke Smith (Anna Of The North) adding characteristic electronic flourishes and motorik groove helping tell the story of a summer romance turned sour.
The chemistry between songwriters Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan – evident throughout their debut LP Hit The Light – continues to be at the fore in this latest offering. Ten Fé create a world of brooding tension, as Born To Run-esque guitar lines and vocal harmonies ricochet off each other.
The track showcases the band’s work in the studio as a newly created 5-piece with Rob Shipley (bass); Johnny Drain (Keys) and Alex Hammond (drums) becoming full members of the group in 2017, and a mix by Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Amen Dunes) giving the track its muscular core. With a soaring cameo from Brigitte Hart (Alex Cameron, Kirin J Callinan) in the climactic final chorus, Ten Fé prove yet again to be masters of creating their own sonic world.
